Find deficiencies of China's manufacturing industry from the fight against COVID-19
China is a big manufacturing country. Before the outbreak, the highest daily production of masks in China was more than 20 million, which produced about 50% of the world's masks. After the epidemic, many entrepreneurs in China switched to production and added a lot of new production lines to manufacture anti-epidemic materials. In addition to meeting their own needs, they also support the world. According to the white paper "China's Action to Fight the New Coronary Pneumonia Epidemic", from March 1 to May 31, China exported anti-epidemic materials to 200 countries and regions, including 70.6 billion masks, 340 million sets of protective clothing, and 115 million goggles. There are 96,700 ventilators, 225 million test kits, and 40.29 million infrared thermometers. It can be said that the materials produced by China's manufacturing industry support the world's anti-epidemic. Is there any Chinese manufacturing in the anti-epidemic process? What's the problem exposed?
First of all, ask a question, what was the most popular product during the entire anti-epidemic period? Masks. So which is the most famous brand mask in the world? 3M and Honeywell are the top two in the global mask industry. Which country do they belong to? In the United States, although China has produced the world's most masks in the world, there is still a certain gap between the Chinese brand's popularity in the world and 3M and Honeywell. Relevant statistics show that at present, more than half of my country's personal protective equipment companies are stuck in scattered, hand-workshop-style outdated production methods. There is still a big gap between domestic brand masks in terms of channels, R&D, and brands from international first-line brands such as 3M and Honeywell. Is the lack of brand in the mask industry a unique situation in this industry? No. For example, there is still a certain gap between Li Ning, Anta, Adi, and Nike of sports brands in China. There is also a large gap between Geely, BYD and Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Toyota. China’s COMAC is still in the testing stage. It is Moutai, which has recently surpassed Coca-Cola in market value, and its brand communication in the world is relatively limited. Because the brand relies on the accumulation of research and development, promotion, and channels, the first problem in China's manufacturing industry is the lack of internationally influential brands.
What is the most closely related word about masks during the epidemic prevention period? N95, what does N95 mean? The N95 mask is one of the nine particulate protective masks certified by NIOSH. The protection level of N95 means that under the testing conditions specified in the NIOSH standard, the filtering efficiency of the mask filter material against non-oily particles (such as dust, acid mist, paint mist, microorganisms, etc.) reaches 95%.
NIOSH is the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health in the United States. In other words, the N95 we often say is the certification standard for masks in the United States. Does China have corresponding certification standards? Yes, it is called KN95, but the Chinese standard is not recognized in the European Union and the United States. If they do not recognize it, the European Union and American hospitals will not be able to use it, and there will be a risk of legal proceedings. The reason for opening the US market is that if an industry standard is controlled by foreign countries, then this industry is also in danger of getting stuck in China. This is also the main reason why many new mask factories in China cannot be exported abroad. There is a saying in the marketing industry: "First-class companies make standards, second-rate companies make brands, and third-rate companies make products". The standards here refer to the technical standards of similar products, that is, companies with advanced production technology and craftsmanship use their own technological advantages. Raise the official and semi-official product technical standards to a level that it can achieve but that its competitors can hardly achieve, and block the opponent out of the product production field, or at least hold the opponent's nose to make it exhausted and perilous. The standards for stuck necks also include the software development industry, stuck FAA airworthiness certificates for domestically produced large aircraft, etc. It will take time for Chinese standards to go global. The second problem of China's manufacturing industry is the right to formulate industry standards.
Masks and protective clothing are all against the new crown pneumonia virus. What are the main medical devices that can really help patients? Ventilator and ecom (artificial lung). Ventilators are medical devices used to assist or control the breathing of patients. They are generally divided into invasive and non-invasive. Invasive ventilators are generally used for the treatment of patients with severe respiratory failure. Most of the ventilators exported from China are relatively low-end non-invasive ventilators. According to relevant industry associations, China’s weekly production capacity of invasive ventilators is about 2,200 units, which is insufficient for the global production capacity. It is unrealistic to fully meet the global epidemic prevention and control needs for one-fifth. In addition, the invasive ventilator is a high-end medical equipment. The design, production and clinical verification must be strictly admitted and certified by domestic and foreign medical safety and standards, and the cycle is very long. ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) is mainly used to provide continuous extracorporeal breathing and circulation for patients with severe cardiopulmonary failure to maintain their lives. Many critically ill patients with new coronary pneumonia rely on this device to maintain their lives. At about 21:30 pm on February 6, Li Wenliang stopped his heartbeat. Later, he continued to use ECMO (artificial membrane lung) for rescue. ECMO can say that this is the last line of life for the most critically ill patients with new coronary pneumonia. At present, my country's production capacity in ECMO is zero, and there is no Chinese institution that can produce ECMO. The three major ecmo manufacturers are Sweden, the United States, and the United Kingdom. It can be seen that Chinese manufacturing has certain deficiencies in the high-end medical field. Chinese manufacturing is also looking forward to breakthroughs in fields such as biomedicine, high-end CNC machine tools, precision instrument manufacturing, aero engines, and cutting-edge lithography machines. The third problem of Chinese manufacturing is the lack of high-end manufacturing in the industry.
Let’s talk about the test kits exported by China. The following three news items are foreign news about Chinese kits.
Britain purchased 2 million sets of rapid antibody test kits worth 20 million U.S. dollars from two Chinese companies, but the test results were disappointing. A laboratory at the University of Oxford found that the accuracy of the detection kit for the new coronavirus was not high, and 2 million kits could only be discarded in the warehouse.
According to Indian media reports, after using the Chinese nucleic acid detection kit, it was found that its accuracy rate was only 5%, and there were huge quality problems. The local health department was required to stop using it immediately, and to return it to China, even more so. Order 500,000 kits purchased from China.
A health expert who teaches at a Czech university said that the university hospital tested this batch of fast virus screening reagents from China and found that the error rate was as high as about 80%, and the test results showed false positive or false negative reactions.
After the follow-up investigation by the Chinese government, it was found that all were caused by improper operation by the user, and there was no such thing. The image of Chinese enterprises and the Chinese government suffered a lot during the whole process, but we are held accountable. This is an issue of overseas rights protection of Chinese manufacturing industry. We should actually sue the media and government that slander made in China in some relevant courts to safeguard our legitimate rights and interests. This is not because of a phenomenon unique to the epidemic. Chinese companies are defending their rights overseas. The problem is not new. For a long time, Chinese companies have generally had problems with weak overseas intellectual property protection awareness and weak risk prevention and control capabilities.
"Tongrentang" suffered trademark cybersquatting in Japan, "Wang Zhihe" was registered in Germany, "Red Star" was registered in the European Union, and the trademarks of more than 120 Chinese toy companies were registered in Chile by a businessman... Recently, Chinese companies have encountered trademark cybersquatting overseas from time to time. The fourth problem of China's manufacturing industry is its weak overseas rights protection capabilities.
There are many problems with Chinese companies' overseas rights protection. There are two main aspects. One is the weak awareness of intellectual property protection, and the other is the weak ability, ability, and information to protect their own intellectual property. In July 2019, the National Overseas Intellectual Property Dispute Response and Guidance Center was formally established, which will help Chinese companies to better go abroad.
Although China's manufacturing is still facing a series of problems in the world, this is also the trouble with the growth that accompanies the gradual expansion and strengthening of China's manufacturing industry. It is the last obstacle that China's manufacturing industry faces from a manufacturing country to a manufacturing country. Once China has made breakthroughs in international brand building, industry standard setting, high-end manufacturing, and overseas rights protection, China will enter the ranks of developed countries in the world. The Chinese will completely bid farewell to the situation of relying on labor to drive the country’s development. Hard work will get the best return. China's development will be a vast sea of stars, and China will surely rejuvenate and return to the top of the world.
